company who asked not to be named said business in Bulawayo was very slow as the city was characterised by closure of companies.
“In Bulawayo, there are a few business opportunities which are resulting in companies closing down or relocating to other cities.
“There is no point staying where there is no survival, it is better to focus on areas that are still growing and areas that give a company hope for the future,” he said.
The official said only one worker would relocate with the company, with the rest not keen to start a new life in Kwekwe.
“Apparently, the company had to relocate with only one of their employees as some of them have their life in Bulawayo hence they couldn’t afford to start a new life in Kwekwe.
“This has obviously left some workers stranded as what always happens when companies decide to relocate or close down,” he said.
He said there was need for local authorities and the Government to work hand-in-hand in supporting local industries that are struggling to remain in existence.
The official said the motor industry was generally not doing well.
“Just like any other industry, in this industry we are facing stiff competition from cheap imported products which are coming in bulk.”
He said his was not the first company in the motoring sector to close down in Bulawayo in recent years.
