Live music lovers as well as stand-up comedy enthusiasts are set to be treated with a show that combines both artistic aspects with a bit of promoting local tourism as Umahlekisa Entertainment will be hosting Afro Jazz muso Thandy Dhlana at Khami Ruins on 20 April.
Dubbed “Thandy Dhlana in Comedy and Ballads in the Ruins,” the gig is meant to encourage locals to frequent and visit tourism and heritage sites in Bulawayo and other parts of Matabeleland.
Comedians Zwe and Nkosi King will also have a chance to showcase their spoken word gifts. To be part of the spectators of the show, one has to part ways with US$25 that will cover all the expenses of the show including the Khami Ruins tour guide, braai pack and transportation to and from Khami Ruins and back by a party bus.
One of the organisers of the event Ntando Van Moyo said the gig is a way of promoting and fostering a link between entertainment and tourism.
“We have been listening to what people say when they attend our gigs. Our vision is to bring people the kind of entertainment they crave. We are on a move to revive our comedy-tourism aspect whereby we want to continue pushing the idea through shows especially in Bulawayo and Matabeleland region so that people visit tourism spaces that we have.
“In hosting Thandy Dhlana, we wanted someone who fits in well with the idea of the show at Khami. She performs live music which we thought many people would enjoy because she would give them value for their hard-earned money.
“People should expect something unique on this show. We have a party bus which will ferry our audience from Bulawayo to Khami Ruins and back. The transportation on its own is part of the gig, as it will be a party bus which will be offering cocktails and so on. Those who will attend will tour Khami Ruins, witness Thandy Dhlana on stage as well as comedians doing their sets live,” said Van Moyo.
As Umahlekisa Entertainment, Ntando said they were ready to join forces with the Ministry of Tourism in encouraging locals to visit heritage and tourism sites.
“We are in the process of collaborating with the Ministry of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry and we hope soon we will be working together on projects like these kinds of shows as a way of encouraging people to visit our tourism and historic monuments,” he said.
