THE Global Methodist Church (GMC) in Zimbabwe, a new denomination formed from a breakaway of the United Methodist Church (UMC), was officially launched on Easter Saturday in Murehwa.
Reverend Forbes Matonga has been appointed interim leader of the GMC in Zimbabwe while awaiting formal ecclesiastical appointments.
Speaking at the launch of the new church, Rev Matonga said: “Since the UMC has fully embraced homosexuality, it was time we left. We cannot continue to be part of a church that compromises on the authority of scripture. Our position is clear: we stand by the Word of God.”
The launch attracted hundreds of worshippers, along with six traditional leaders who commended the church’s commitment to upholding Zimbabwe’s cultural values in line with biblical teachings.
