Umdumo Wesizwe organise farewell gig

RENOWNED imbube outfit Umdumo Wesizwe has organised a farewell gig dubbed “the last supper” before embarking on a month-long tour of the United Kingdom. The well-travelled ensemble will be travelling to Europe after a two year hiatus.The show organised by Sabela Music Projects, producers of the group is set for the Small City Hall on Friday evening.

The group’s director Gugulabo Nkomo urged their fans to come in for the exclusive show as it is both a fundraising and farewell show.
“This will be an intimate night for all friends and supporters to meet and mingle with the group.  Fans can come and meet the families of Umdumo and the Umdumo members in a family-outing-like show where we will set up the Small City Hall in a dinner setting style with our members sitting with the fans.

This is an important show for us as it will be the last as we leave Zimbabwe the next day,” said Nkomo.
The tour, also organised by Sabela Music Projects will see the group appear and perform at the Aberdeen International Youth Festival 2013 in as well as perform daily in August at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2013.

Aberdeen, in Scotland, has a twinning arrangement with Bulawayo.
At the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the youthful singers will rub shoulders with more than 1000 artistes.

Nkomo said only 200 tickets were available for the Bulawayo show and signed CD’s, T shirts will be on sale on the night. “Guests will be treated to some finger snacks and refreshments.  This show plays a significant part in the history of Umdumo as it is dedicated to the life of Mqoqi “Mxhe” Nkomo who passed on two years ago in July,” said Nkomo.

He said the group would premiere their new show Mxhento, named after their late leader Mqoqi “Mxhe” Nkomo.
Umdumo Wesizwe is made up of Gugulabo Nkomo, Busani Nkomo, Lizwe Jele, Fortune Sibanda, Smart Mlalazi, Dalubuhle Hadebe, Lovemore Tachikweyi Makave and Forget Ndlovu.
