UMKHATHI Theatre Works, a renowned performing arts ensemble, is gearing up to commemorate the World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People, with an exciting production titled “Zaza and Zozo”.
The event will take place on Wednesday at Helemu Primary School in Njube, Bulawayo.
The World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People commemorated on March 20, is an annual celebration supported by Assitej International, a global network that advocates for theatre and performing arts, specifically tailored for young audiences in more than 75 countries.
The overarching goal of this event is to emphasise the importance of providing children and young people with access to cultural experiences that can enrich their lives.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Take a Child to the Theatre, today”, which underscores the significance of introducing young minds to the world of theatre and nurturing their appreciation for the arts.
“Zaza and Zozo”, is a captivating theatrical piece designed to engage and entertain young audiences.
The play revolves around the adventures of two subjects, who embark on a whimsical journey after defying their King’s orders. Filled with humour, absurdity and unexpected twists, this delightful production promises to captivate viewers of all ages, sparking their imagination and leaving them inspired.
Umkhathi Theatre Works’ artistic director, Matesu Dube said the ensemble is ready to exhibit their theatrical excellence.

“We’re thrilled to bring ‘Zaza and Zozo’ to life as part of the World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People celebration. Through this production, we aim to ignite young minds’ imagination and cultivate a deep love and appreciation for the arts,” said Dube.
Umkhathi Theatre Works, proudly operates as a Assitej Zimbabwe member, an Assitej International affiliate. The organisation is dedicated to promoting access to the arts for children and young people in the local community.
