Veteran Marabi and Jazz maestro Jeys Marabini says he is humbled after being honoured at this year’s Imiklomela kaDakamela Cultural Festival, held at Chief Dakamela’s homestead in Nkayi, Matabeleland North.
Marabini was honoured with a Chief Dakamela Achievers’ Award for his longstanding contribution to the arts, in a career spanning close to three decades.

“I’m humbled and honoured to have received an Appreciation Award from Imiklomelo kaDakamela, hosted by Chief Dakamela at his homestead in Nkayi. This recognition means a great deal to us, as it comes from our own people, our roots, and a community that has walked this journey with us through the years.
“To be acknowledged in such a meaningful and cultural setting reminds us why we continue to preserve, perform, and promote our music,” Jeys Marabini said.
“I’d like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Chief Dakamela, the organisers of Imiklomelo kaDakamela, and the people of Nkayi for this incredible honour. Siyabonga kakhulu, this award belongs to all of you.”
The honour comes as Marabini prepares for a major stage appearance at this year’s Independence Gala, set for April 18 at Minda High School, where performances will run from 6pm into the night.
The gala will follow the main Independence celebrations at Maphisa Growth Point, where President Mnangagwa is expected to preside over proceedings.
Marabini will share the stage with a star-studded line-up that includes Zinjaziyamluma, Clement Magwaza, Mavusani, The Chimurenga Vocalists, Black Diva, Dereck Mpofu, Andy Muridzo, LMG Choir, Mbare Chimurenga Choir, Black Umfolosi, Ndolwane Super Sounds and Chief Hwenje. Other performers include Khonangale, Indosakusa The Morning Star, Iyasa, Bhadilah, Chase Skuza, Jah Master, Sasha, Bolamba Culture Birds, Sulumani Chimbetu, Ufasimba Home of Arts, DT Bio Mudimba and Dubia Masters.
