Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe District has commended the new dispensation under the leadership of President Mnangagwa for bringing infrastructure development to the area.
Speaking during a briefing before a tour of the rehabilitation of Mashonaland East roads on Friday, Maramba-Pfungwe legislator Cde Tichaona Karumazondo applauded the new dispensation for fulfilling promises made during election campaigns.
Cde Karumazondo said the Madacheche Road rehabilitation project has been on hold since 1982, a move which contributed to the slow development of the constituency and UMP District.
“This road has been neglected for a long time, we have been promised in the old dispensation that this road will be tarred, but since 1982 nothing came to fruition,” he said.
“This made the people in UMP to be doubtful, but with this new dispensation, with a listening President, the doubts have been erased.
‘‘People have confidence in the new administration because they are seeing development, which they have been seeing from other districts.”
Cde Karumazondo said his constituency topped in the 2018 general elections in the whole of Mashonaland East Province and equated his constituency to a genius student who is always on the top of his class.
He pleaded with Government to bring buses to UMP, saying transport operators in the district were charging exorbitant fares, taking advantage that there was no competition due to poor road network.
In an interview with The Herald on the sidelines of the tour, Chief Chiota of Maramba-Pfungwe commended Government for fulfilling promises made to the people of the area.
“I am happy with this Government, from 1982 we have been promised that this road will be tarred, but nothing came up, however President Mnangagwa made the promise that development is coming our way and true to his word, our roads are being rehabilitated,” Chief Chiota said.
