Umzingwane receives donations in healthcare facilities

A well-wisher has donated linen and bedding to Esigodini District Hospital and two other clinics in Umzingwane District, which will go a long way in aiding healthcare facilities that have been facing a shortage.

Esigodini District Hospital is located close to the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Highway and receives a lot of road traffic accident victims on a daily basis. A total of 41 sheets, pillowcases and bedcovers were donated to the hospital while Nswazi and Mpisini clinics also received their own linen and bedding.

Handing over the donation, Zanu-PF Umzingwane District Business Development and Liaison Secretary, Mr Nyarai Sibanda said the donation was going to augment what the health facilities already had.

“I was moved to source the donations after realising that the hospital and clinics had linen and bedding shortages. Many patients have to spend a significant amount of time in bed at the hospital and clinics, so having proper linens will provide the most comfort in times of stress and discomfort,” he said.

Deputy Minister of Defence and Umzingwane Member of Parliament (MP), Brigadier-General (Rtd) Levi Mayihlome who also graced the event expressed his gratitude for the generous donation.

“It resonate well with President Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind. As our President always says, ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo, it is through such donations that we see the true meaning of this statement as helping each other makes us and our communities to rise up and prosper,’’ he said.

He said in order for progress to prevail, people ought to give back to their communities.

“Giving back to communities, especially in hospitals is very vital as every individual’s life begins and ends in a hospital. Giving back to our hospitals will not only make our hospitals beautiful, but it can benefit communities at large as lives will be saved,” he said.

Deputy Minister Mayihlome encouraged everyone to give wholeheartedly and follow in Mr Sibanda’s footsteps.

“Blessed is the hand that gives than the one that receives. Mr Sibanda gave, not because he has excess but because he knows the feeling of lacking. If we are all able to do the same, then we will flourish as a country,” he said.

He said that in order for the country to attain Vision 2023 of an upper middle income economy, healthcare facilities need to be developed.

“It is crucial for a country to have a good healthcare system and as a district, we will channel the Umzingwane 2024 Constituency Development Fund to develop healthcare centres. We have hopes of building one clinic per year to reduce the distance travelled by people in rural areas.”
