A 30-YEAR-OLD Pumula Old man has appeared in court after he allegedly raped his 16 year old niece during a midday visit.
The man, whose name cannot be published to protect the minor, stood before Western Commonage regional magistrate Pasipanodya Maturure facing a rape charge. He was remanded in custody to 18 November for trial.
Prosecutor Christina Manyika told the court that the sordid incident occurred on October 17. At around 12PM, the accused reportedly arrived at the teenager’s home and found her peacefully washing plates outside.
The court heard that the man walked up to the juvenile and, without warning, grabbed her and dragged her into the house. He allegedly shoved her to the floor with her facing upwards.
Manyika said he forcibly undressed the minor and raped her once without protection.
The traumatised complainant later confided in her mother, who immediately accompanied her to make a police report. The accused was arrested soon after, and the girl was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital for a medical examination.
