Understanding the times and seasons

GREETINGS, beloved nation, in the name of Jesus Christ. God ordained the times and the seasons and expects us to understand them in order to know what we are supposed to be doing in every season. As nations of the world and as individuals, we are in a difficult season characterised by a great deal of uncertainty due to the pandemic we are facing.

Many restrictions have been put in place in numerous nations and the normal way of life has been disrupted. It is important that, as believers, we have an understanding of the times and seasons and remain spiritually alert so that we can navigate our way through such seasons.

In Daniel 2:21, the Bible says that “God changes the times and the seasons…” If God ordains the times and the seasons and changes them, then it is necessary for us to find out from Him what season we are living in and what we ought to be doing in each season.

We need to understand that this has nothing to do with the natural seasons of summer, autumn, winter, and spring, but is entirely about spiritual seasons within a God-preordained calendar for every individual and the body of Christ.

In 1 Chronicles 12:32, the Bible says that “the sons of Issachar had understanding of the times to know what Israel ought to do.” This verse provides further insight into the importance of understanding the times and seasons. Among all the tribes of Israel, only one tribe was commended for this understanding and for knowing what Israel ought to do.

implies that without a deep understanding of the times and seasons, we will not know what we are supposed to do as individuals or as the body of Christ.

To understand the times and seasons as believers, we must align ourselves properly and position ourselves to hear instructions from God as He reveals the way we should go. This requires discernment and spiritual alertness. Spiritual discernment cannot be acquired through education alone.

To develop it, we must know the authentic so well that when something false appears, we can recognise it. For example, bank tellers are trained to recognise genuine currency before they can identify counterfeit notes. The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 2:10 that “the Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God; no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.” This means that the Holy Spirit enables us to discern.

In the book of Daniel, we read about Daniel, a man who was prayerful and had a close relationship with God. Because of this, he was shown the secrets of the end times. In the season we are living in, God is bringing order to His church. He wants to reposition us in preparation for the second coming of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

There has been much compromise within the body of Christ, including scandals, false prophets vying for power and positions, sexual immorality and rebellion. In a move that will usher in a great revival, God is bringing order to the church.

He is cleansing His bride of all filth because He is coming for a spotless church. This calls for us to be spiritually sensitive and to have a deeper understanding of the times and seasons so that we are not caught unawares, like the five foolish virgins in Matthew 25.

There is a call for repentance and holiness within the body of Christ so that revival can be brought about. We must heed God’s instructions to repent and pursue holiness. God is a God of secrets and in order to understand the times and seasons, we must develop an intimate relationship with Him, so that He can reveal His hidden secrets to us.

The Bible states in Deuteronomy 29:29, “The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.” This indicates that God desires to reveal certain secrets to us.

God is seeking people to whom He can reveal His secrets, but He can only do so to those who draw near to Him and press after Him. Just as a friend doesn’t shout their secrets from a rooftop or in a crowded street, but whispers them in confidence, so too we must draw close to God to receive His revelations.

To understand the times and seasons, we must position ourselves properly and allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us, as Psalm 37:23 says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.”

I invite you now to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and you shall be saved. May God bless you all and this beautiful nation of Zimbabwe. Amen.
