Undoing the abominable legacy of colonialism

Dr Obert Moses Mpofu

While the nation has been fixated on the commendable strides made thus far by the Second Republic with regards to moving our great nation forward, some of us have somewhat missed how the very act of moving Zimbabwe forward has unexpectedly undone the legacy of colonialism. Zimbabwe now has a new identity quite divorced from our colonisers. Our beloved country has become the symbol of what a determined people can achieve.

Zimbabwe is charting a new path. One divorced from the colonial legacy that has been weighing down on us for decades since independence. The rewards enjoyed as a result of independence are many. There are so numerous that we cannot quantify them. But perhaps the most important one is the ability to carve one’s future in a free and just society. This is what an independent Zimbabwe has managed to give to all its people.

This is what the Second Republic has sought to reinforce. The Second Republic has become the most progressive government in Zimbabwe’s history and rightfully so. What the Zanu-PF government under President Mnangagwa has been able to achieve within a short period of time is astounding. There has been so much progress such that Zimbabwe is unrecognisable to those who were last here before the New Dispensation.

Zimbabwe is indeed entering a new age and it is all thanks to the ruling Party Zanu-PF. The work however still continues, and what President Mnangagwa is doing is to sow the seed for a prosperous Zimbabwe for the fruits to be enjoyed by all.

The Vision that my Party Zanu-PF has for this our beloved country is one that extends beyond short-lived economic successes. The goal is to ensure sustainable economic growth and development. President Mnangagwa will without a doubt leave a legacy similar to that of Deng Xiaoping who sowed the seeds for modern China’s success on the political and economic fronts.

At this rate, there is no room for regression. My party Zanu-PF under President Mnangagwa is clearly the architect of this progressive and economically prosperous Zimbabwe. Zanu-PF under President Mnangagwa is clearly presiding over a period of enormous economic change. When all is said and done, Zimbabweans will be eternally grateful to my Party Zanu-PF and how much it has transformed Zimbabwe for the better.

Before the advent of the New Dispensation, Zimbabwe was operating in isolation, but that is a thing of the past. Zimbabwe has now been able to reach out and has made headway in mending old relations with some former hostile nations as well as forging new ones in the process. This has made it possible to attract significant foreign direct investment (FDI) and enter into mega deals that have been instrumental in driving our economy forward. On top of the notable FDI, the Zanu-PF government under President Mnangagwa has introduced deliberate policies aimed at capacitating local companies and having them take up a significant portion of business within the economy. This stems from Zanu-PF’s strong belief in empowering its people.

Since drought and food shortages are a thing of the past and now that our people are well fed, focus falls on other areas that need to be improved. Zimbabwe is back as the bread basket once more such that we are now exporting all manner of grains. This has not happened in a long time. Our people now have a full and total understanding of the importance of fully utilising our land.

I could go on and on and provide renditions of all the good things the people of Zimbabwe now enjoy as a result of the Zanu-PF led and initiated policies, but we should not forget how Zanu-PF in its quest to move Zimbabwe forward has banished the legacy of colonialism and created a new path for our beloved land.

No more, shall colonialism be the feature that defines us the most. It is our self-determination in a hostile and inhospitable environment that has become associated with us. With unity of purpose as Zimbabweans, we indeed have a future ever so bright.
