AN UNIDENTIFIED man was found dead early this morning, lying face-up under a footbridge in Area 3 of Dangamvura, Mutare; sending shockwaves through the local community.
The discovery was made by passersby, who quickly alerted the police.
Police arrived at the scene and removed the body, taking it to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital mortuary for further examination.
The identity of the deceased remains unknown, and the cause of death is yet to be determined.
When The Manica Post crew visited the scene, several residents in disbelief had gathered; with many expressing concern over the increasingly worrisome safety in the area.
Area 3 resident Mrs Muchaneta Nemate said she was shocked by the discovery and feared for the safety of residents, especially women and children who use the footbridge daily.
“This is very disturbing. We use this path every day, even late at night. To wake up and find a dead body here is frightening. The deceased had scratches on his face but it seems he had been dead for days as his body was already in a state of decomposition. We do not know what happened to him, but it worries us that someone could die here without anyone noticing,” she said.
