United underachieved

LONDON. — Manchester United’s season has “undoubtedly been one of underachievement,” according to the club’s former chief executive David Gill.

United are fifth in the Premier League, out of the League Cup and Champions League and their only realistic chance of silverware lies in the FA Cup and the Europa League.

After last weekend’s 1-0 win at Liverpool, Louis van Gaal tentatively talked up his side’s title chances, but the home loss to Southampton on Saturday leaves them five points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham and 10 points off league leaders Leicester City. — The Mirror.
