BULAWAYO Minister of State for Metropolitan Provincial Affairs and Devolution Judith Ncube has said the Unity Accord is a gift that the founding fathers of the nation the late Former President Robert Mugabe and the late Vice President Dr Joshua Nkomo gave to Zimbabwe.
She said unity must be cherished and allowed to permeate every part of society for development to happen.
Minister Ncube said the unity accord helped stop the post-independence strife in the country and this year the day is marked at a time when the chiefs will initiate the process to bring a closer to the subject through public hearings.
This year Zimbabwe celebrates 36 years after the signing of the Unity Accord between the late former, on December 22, 1987, to end political disturbances in the Matabeleland and Midlands regions.
The Unity Accord brought together Zanu-PF and PF-Zapu under the banner of Zanu-PF. During the 10th anniversary of the Unity Accord, on December 22, 1997, the day was declared a national holiday to highlight its significance while ensuring that it would never be forgotten or undermined by anyone.
