Last Bindu (36) of no fixed abode was at the UFI church premises on June 25 where he was blasting stone at around 8.30am. Bindu reportedly set the dynamite sticks in place but failed to notify people who had come to fetch some water at the church. Daizy Machiya arrived at around that time and joined the queue waiting for her turn to get some water.
Bindu detonated the dynamite resulting in the uncontrolled debris from the blast flying all over the place. Flying debris hit Machiya on the head and she fell to the ground but escaped with moderate injuries.
Prosecutor Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa proved that since Bindu was unlicenced and he failed to take precautionary measures during the blast.
Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini wanted to sentence him to a community service, but was forced to send him to prison for five months since he was of no fixed abode.
