A 48-year-old man was ordered to perform 140 hours of community service at Mabvuku Police Station in Harare for illegally possessing copper.

Alphias Mandivhani was initially sentenced to eight months in jail when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Barbra Mateko charged with dealing in copper without a licence.

Mrs Mateko suspended four months of the jail term on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining months were suspended on condition that he performs community service.

Mandivhani was arrested at Magaba in Mbare while off-loading the copper he scrapped from a geyser and intending to trade.

He then failed to produce a license that allows him to deal in copper when approached by the police.

Mrs Polite Chikiwa prosecuted.
