POLICE yesterday dispersed about 70 MDC-T activists in Harare for attempting to carry out an unsanctioned demonstration. National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said the opposition activists were blocking traffic and throwing stones at both the police and the public. “The police would like to confirm that 70 unruly and drunk MDC-T activists were dispersed by police in Harare after a failed attempt to engage in an unsanctioned demonstration which saw them blocking traffic,” he said.

Police warned that they will not hesitate to apply the full wrath of the law in dealing with all those who interfered with the people’s freedom of movement.
“It is also disturbing to note that some of the youths involved were influenced through offers of beer to get drunk and engage in unlawful acts,” Chief Supt Nyathi said.

Two weeks ago, seven opposition activists were arrested in Harare for carrying out an unsanctioned demonstration.
