ZIMBABWE’S chances of landing a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council are bright, as it has everything that it takes to win the bid, whose voting will be held in June this year.
Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, Prof Amon Murwira, said President Mnangagwa’s policy of diplomatic engagement and re-engagement had galvanised the country to boost its chances of landing the post.
Prof Murwira said this during a current affairs Star FM radio programme, “Muriro on Monday,” where he tackled several issues about the Government’s foreign policy.
“The chances are extremely bright. We are very proud of the support we got from His Excellency, President Mnangagwa and the support we are getting internationally to make sure we get that seat,” said Prof Murwira.
He said Zimbabwe has remained stable and peaceful despite several challenges that it has gone through and that meant that through its resilience, it had what it takes to land the post.
“We have gone through a lot as a country, but we have remained stable. It makes us a reliable partner in making and fostering a better world for all. We are giving ourselves to the international community as a country that can be relied on.
“As we go to the UNSC we have what we call the country’s good standing which brings a lot of positive and many benefits because the country will be on the limelight, the good things about it will be seen and people begin to trust it, people will visit its tourism endowment and become a trusted member of the international community,” said Prof Murwira.
He said Zimbabwe got several endorsements from many countries that include the SADC, the African Union and countries from the Pacific and Caribbean regions.
