KENNY CHIRORODZIVA has released a singe titled “The Prince of Zimbabwe”.
The single was released early this month by the Track Records. On the A side is a song called “Ndayarutsa” while the B side is “Wasarawasara”.
“Ndayarutsa” is a song which tackles social issues. It portrays the father as the head of the family who is supposed to care of the family in times of hardships.
“Wasarawasara” encourages people of Zimbabwe to know our culture and respect our values.
Chirorodziva’s music is a fusion of mbira, guitars and lyrics
“Culture K”, as his legions of fans call him, comes from the small town of Chinhoyi and he started singing when he was very young in a family choir.
He applauded his mother for inspiring him into singing.
The 43-year-old singer started singing seriously in 1998 as the leader of a band called Chirorodziva Crew as a lead singer who also played keyboard.
Chirorodziva is surely talented but due to lack of funding and promotion he didn’t manage to record anything till 2008.
He finally managed to record this double track album in 2008 which he released this year.
Chirorodziva said he was so happy that he finally released his single after a long struggle and he is looking forward to gaining popularity through his double single
“I’m really happy that finally I managed to release and I would like to thank all those who made this project successful too many to mention including my family and from now I will never look back in my career” said Chirorodziva.
The mbira player, who used to perform live in his hometown in Chinhoyi, once scooped the awards in Chibuku Road Fame at provincial level in 2005. In 2003, he also scooped another award at national level in the Music Crossroads.
The talented singer said he lookS up to some of the music legends like Malian singer Salif Keita, Oliver Mtukudzi, Jordan Chataika and Safario Madzikatire .
He once even shared THE stage with some of Zimbabwe’s top musicians among them Progress Chipfumo, Jah Prayzah and Alick Macheso.
Chirorodziva encouraged the young musicians to produce educative though entertaining music which encourages the society to keep their values.
“I would like to encourage other musicians to work together in shaping the society through releasing good content, lyrically, instrumentally and even the videos especially young musicians.
“It is a shame that other young musicians release some kind of music which you cannot even enjoy as a family. Let’s work together as artistes to shape the society,” said Chirorodziva.
With his fresh, mature artistry, he seems to be worth keeping an eye upon in the Zimbabwean music industry.
