In a touching display of love and commitment, renowned Urban Grooves artiste PoZeeYounga97 recently paid lobola for his fiancee, Sharon Ngwenya, marking a significant step in their journey as a couple.
The couple’s story began in October 2022 when they first encountered each other at Sharon’s workplace. The serendipitous meeting occurred when PoZeeYounga97 visited a local Econet branch for customer care services. Little did he know that this routine visit would alter the course of his life. Fate intervened and the woman who caught his attention turned out to be someone other than the one serving him.
And what started as a friendship evolved into a romantic relationship, officially commencing in December 2022.
In an interview with Saturday Leisure, PoZee Younga97 and Sharon shared the story of their meeting and the significance of the roora (lobola) ceremony. PoZeeYounga97 expressed the unexpected encounter, stating, “Funny how we met because I’d gone to get my Econet line fixed at her workplace and although she wasn’t the one serving me, she recognised me and asked if she knew me from Chamembe.
“I declined, mentioning that it was my brother. However, I took the opportunity to ask for her number, seeking assistance with my Ecosure policy.”
Sharon expressed her admiration for both PoZee Younga97, the artiste and Mbekezeli Mpofu, the person behind the stage name, stressing the growth of their closeness as a couple.

“My husband’s passion for music has always been evident and since our meeting, I’ve dedicated myself to supporting him in his career. Witnessing his live performance for the first time at the Urban Grooves Winter Shutdown at Boundary Bar last year was an incredibly special moment. Observing the distinction between PoZee Younga97, the artiste and Mbekezeli Mpofu, the person behind the stage name, was truly remarkable, as I cherish them both,” she said.
She emphasised the importance of the roora ceremony, highlighting the love and unity it symbolised for their families.
“The roora ceremony holds a lot of meaning for me. The fact that he paid the bride price showed the love, respect and honour he has for me and my family. The joining of our families means so much and seeing the happy faces of everyone was incredible. The whole ceremony was a dream come true,” she said.
For PoZee Younga97, being referred to as umkhwenyana (son-in-law) by his in-laws during the lobola ceremony was a profoundly meaningful moment, signifying acceptance into the family. He noted that their relationship has taken a significant turn since the ceremony.
“The highlight for me was when my in-laws affectionately referred to me as their mkhwenyana, symbolising acceptance into the family. Since our marriage, my relationship with my wife has undergone a profound transformation, highlighted when I noticed my phone number saved in her phone as ‘hubby’.”

“As a couple, we’ve grown even closer, with the levels of respect and love doubling, solidifying his role in our marriage as my husband. We express our sincere gratitude to God for guiding us on this journey until this day.”
Despite his fame, PoZeeYounga97 said being an artiste is just a job for him, stressing the importance of a balanced life.
“I consider myself blessed to have my wife by my side. Her belief in me surpasses my own self-confidence and her vision extends beyond mine. Remarkably, she has developed marketing strategies for both PoZee and Kasnovalo as brands.
“Our shared goal is to savour our love and collaboratively nurture our businesses, fostering growth together,” said the musician.
He advised fellow artistes planning their lobola ceremonies to pray earnestly, as he believes in the guidance of God.
The couple, committed to enjoying their love and growing their businesses together, represents a trend among artistes prioritising personal lives and embracing stability and companionship.
In a parallel story, gospel artiste Innora also made headlines recently with a proposal to his wife, reflecting a broader shift in artistes’ priorities toward settling down and building meaningful relationships. – @TashaMutsiba
