PAINT manufacturing giant, Nash Paints, yesterday launched a million-dollar decorative manufacturing plant in Harare as part of its efforts to aid the accelerated housing development projects being implemented by the Government throughout the country.

The paint company also aims to penetrate regional and international markets with the decorative paint. The plant has the capacity of producing 18 000 litres of paint per day, with a complementary semi-automated packaging plant.

Speaking during the official launch of the plant, Nash Paints executive assistant, Mr Breedon Sibanda, said the development would cut production costs for the business “due to economies of scale”.

He said there would be improved efficiency, a benefit that has been extended to Zimbabweans through price cuts. Mr Sibanda said the new plant was testament to Nash Paints’ commitment to growa and contribute to the growth of the country in line with Vision 2030.

“The new decorative plant manufacturing was bought as a complete unit from Plascon Botswana after they closed off business,” he said.

“The plant boasts a capacity of 18000lt/day paint production with a complementary semi-automated packaging plant.

“The plant was bought in April 2022, and installation was completed by the first of July. In the month of July alone decorative paint production volumes grew by 127 percent, translating to a production capacity of 35 percent for the new plant.”

Nash Paints executive chairman Mr Tinashe Mutarisi said like any other company, they also faced serious challenges at the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, but the company had shown some resilience.

“The previous period was very tough, we mainly import our raw materials from China and India, but due to Covid-19 we were left stranded,” he said.

“Both India and China were under lockdown and another company which used to supply us with raw materials from South Africa was gutted by fire.”
