CALEDONIA Mining Corporation has intensified exploration work at its Motapa Gold Project, with a US$3,8 million investment programme underway as the group moves closer to defining a maiden mineral resource estimate for sulphide mineralisation on the project.
The ongoing exploration programme forms part of Caledonia’s 2026 growth capital strategy and is focused on advancing geological understanding, refining resource models and supporting long-term mine development decisions at one of its key emerging assets.
In a production for the first quarter ended March 31, 2026, Caledonia whose local assets also include the flagship Blanket Mine in Gwanda, the Bilboes Gold Project in Matabeleland North, and Maligreen in Gweru said exploration activities at Motapa, which is also located in Gweru, Midlands, remain on track.
It said data interpretation, geological modelling and resource estimation were progressing as planned, laying the groundwork for a maiden mineral resource statement expected later this year.
“Exploration work at Motapa remains ongoing, with data interpretation, geological modelling and resource estimation activities progressing as planned.
“The results from the exploration programme are on track to support a maiden mineral resource estimate for the sulphide mineralisation at Motapa North during 2026,” said Caledonia.
“Looking ahead, US$3,8 million was allocated to Motapa’s exploration as part of the group’s 2026 growth capital programme, reflecting management’s continued commitment to disciplined investment in exploration while maintaining financial flexibility.”
If successful, the Motapa programme could add to the country’s growing pipeline of gold projects at a time when the sector remains central to export earnings, foreign currency generation and broader economic stability.
