THE reigning Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, Nomqhele Sisa Nkomo, has received a significant boost ahead of her participation in the Miss Tourism International pageant, scheduled to take place from 4–20 October in Malaysia.
Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality, Tongai Mnangagwa, has extended a sponsorship of US$4 000 to support Nkomo’s preparations. The funds will cover her travel expenses, wardrobe, and other essentials as she prepares to represent Zimbabwe on the global stage.
Nkomo, who is passionate about climate advocacy and sustainable tourism, described the support as both empowering and symbolic.
“I’m truly honoured and grateful for the support from Deputy Minister Mnangagwa. This sponsorship is not just a contribution to my journey but a powerful endorsement of the vision to showcase Zimbabwe on the global stage.
“It motivates me to work even harder, knowing that my country believes in me and is invested in the story I’ll carry to the Miss Tourism International pageant. For me, this support represents more than preparation—it symbolises unity, confidence, and national pride,” she said.
Nkomo stated that her goal at the pageant is to highlight Zimbabwe’s rich heritage, warm hospitality, and breathtaking destinations.
“I aim to share the story of a country where tradition and modernity beautifully coexist, and where every visitor leaves with a piece of our warmth and resilience. On the international stage, I plan to embody this spirit through my presence, culture, and advocacy for sustainable tourism. By presenting Zimbabwe as both a cultural treasure and a thriving tourism destination, I hope to inspire curiosity, admiration, and a renewed interest in visiting our beautiful nation.”
Beyond pageantry, Nkomo is also a first-year journalism student at the National University of Science and Technology (Nust).
A versatile creative, she is a talented designer and spoken-word poet who has competed in poetry slams and performed at various events.
Her artistry was recognised last year when she won the Outstanding Poet Award at the Pumula Royal Arts and Community Awards, further cementing her reputation as a rising star in Zimbabwe’s creative and cultural industries. She is also the reigning Miss Nust.
