US$50m resort for Lake Chivero

Safari Operators’ Association of Zimbabwe president Mr Emmanuel Fundira said the resort, dubbed the Hippo Creek, will include existing tourist facilities at the lake, such as Kuimba Shiri bird sanctuary. The resort was modelled along the lines of South Africa’s popular Sun City.
“The first phase is to begin soon because US$6 million is now available to commence the construction,” said Mr Fundira, the head of the consortium of investors.
“The holiday resort comprises of a housing estate, a nine-hole golf course, 40-roomed hotel on the site, service centre and a shopping mall,” he said.
Mr Fundira said local companies in compliance with the indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Act would be involved in the construction. – New Ziana.
