About 280 000 smallholder farmers are set to benefit from the US$6 million Rural Agricultural Revitalisation Project for Commercialisation of Smallholder Farming that was launched yesterday.The project, that will be implemented in all provinces, will benefit farmers in dairy, oil seeds and horticulture sub-sectors and ensure household food security and improved incomes.
Netherlands Development Organisation, Danish International Development Agency and Ministries of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development and Small and Medium Enterprises and Co-operative Development and public and private sector companies are spearheading the project.
In a speech read on his behalf by the acting secretary in the ministry Mr Joseph Gondo, Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development Minister Dr Joseph Made said the focus of the project was consistent with and supportive of strategic objectives outlined in the ZimAsset and various other Government policy blue prints.
“This project goal falls within the Government development priorities since independence and is in line with the Government’s Zim-Asset,” he said.
