Uzumba constituency will remain resolutely behind Zanu PF and President Mnangagwa in the August 23 harmonised elections, the ruling party”s candidate for the National Assembly, Cde Wiriranai Muchemwa has said.
Uzumba which is in Mashonaland East province, has overwhelmingly voted for the ruling party since 1980 and Cde Muchemwa reaffirmed their support in an interview following a tour of development projects being carried out in the constituency.
It is one of the areas that bore the brunt of the Rhodesian regime during the liberation struggle due to its support of freedom fighters.
“The party has targeted 6 million votes in the forthcoming elections and as a constituency we are working very hard to contribute to that figure in an emphatic way that we are known for,” Cde Muchemwa said.
He thanked President Mnangagwa for the various development projects that he has initiated and have also benefitted Uzumba.
“We have the Presidential borehole drilling scheme that has also benefitted this constituency and as we speak the drilling rigs are busy at work in various villages and institutions that include clinics and schools to ensure that people have access to safe drinking water,” he said.
Meanwhile, Cde Muchemwa has also donated cement and timber and roofing material to various schools that include Nyaruchera and Barahwe primary schools and Chitimbe and Matsenga secondary schools and a community hall at Nyamhara business centre.
