AN unidentified Plumtree vagabond was allegedly stabbed to death on the chest in a suspected murder case.

The man who spent most of his time loitering around the border town’s CBD was found dead by the roadside near Plumtree Hotel with a wound on his chest on Tuesday morning.

A Plumtree resident who arrived first on the scene and alerted police, Mr Ivor Kasongo said he found the man’s body around 6am.

“I was driving past the area when I noticed a person lying by the roadside. I reached the scene and I found that he was already dead. He had a wound on his chest which was still fresh and he was lying on his side and I quickly alerted the police,” he said.

When the news crew arrived at the scene police officers were assessing the crime scene. Traces of blood were observed from where the body was found lying at a nearby complex which is about 20 metres away. The councillor responsible for Plumtree CBD, Clr Paulos Vini Hobane confirmed the incident.

He said he was yet to ascertain the cause of the incident as police were still carrying out investigations. Clr Hobane said there was a need for intensified police patrols within the community to ensure that such incidents do not occur and when they do culprits should be arrested.
