The hopeless romantics are in for a treat this Valentine’s Day as Holiday Inn Bulawayo hosts the Unforgettable Red and Black ball while party-loving lovers can look forward to a wild night at Club Forty 40.
Valentine’s Day, celebrated annually on February 14 is an opportunity to celebrate love. The period just prior to the day is one of the busiest times of the year for most restaurants, boutiques and salons as both men and women prepare for the day.
For some, Valentine’s Day is a day to pop out those special four words “Will you marry me?” as the setting and mood is usually conducive to doing so. At restaurants, there are sometimes countless rings to hide and fires to put out when couples decide to break up in the middle of the dining room.
As part of the celebrations, Holiday Inn will be pitching a marquee tent by their garden where festivities will take place. A fashion show courtesy of Edgars and wine tasting with Brands Africa will be some of the highlights of the night.
Holiday Inn Bulawayo general manager, Chiku Mulinde said they were hosting the Valentine’s ball to encourage people to spoil their loved ones.
“As a hotel, we care about our guests and want to celebrate this special day with them. We’ll start the night with wine tasting followed by a fashion show where models will showcase the latest fashion trends. While that is happening, women will be getting pampered at a make-up booth.
“A wide range of fragrances will also be available at the booth for those who want to get their loved ones last minute presents,” said Mulinde.
He added that they would put a love couch where lovers would have pictures taken.
Couples also stand a chance of winning lots of prizes in competitions which will be held on the night.
“We urge diners to come dressed in smart red and black evening wear to avoid being the odd ones out,” he said.
Besides being serenaded by Harmonic Rhythms, couples will also be free to dedicate songs which will be played during dinner to their loved ones. Each couple will be expected to part with $48 to attend the ball.
After dinner, lovers can loosen up and dance the night away at Club Forty40 at a Valentine’s bash with performances by Shinsoman, Yoz, DJ Mzoe, Humble kid Teflo and Theo.
Those who prefer enjoying each other’s company with a view of a dam, cool breeze, the sound of birds chirping and soothing jazz music, then Hillside Dams is their ultimate place to spend the day. For $50 per couple, lovers will spend their day watching an outdoor movie while sipping on drinks with a party being held in the evening.
Fashion lovers have not been left out as the city’s prime nightspot; Club Eden will host a Miss Valentine Face of Eden.
But the celebration of love will start on the night before Valentine’s Day with superstar Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi and Tocky Vibes performing at the Large City Hall and Horizon Pub & Grill respectively.
