I’VE been getting a lot of promotional texts about Valentine’s events this whole week.
There’ve been advertisements of candlelit dinners, trips on a steam engine and specials at different nightclubs.
But with all this lined up — I still prefer spending the day indoors. I’ll watch a couple of movies and munch on my favourite snack — Korn Kurls.
I won’t even have a drink with them, water will be just fine and no, I’m not weird, I’ll be perfectly happy with the combination.
Later in the day will be my Sunday shows — Clash of the Choirs, Our Perfect Wedding and then Saints and Sinners.
Am I not an absolutely simple soul? Of course I am but don’t get it twisted, I’ll still expect a gift, leap year or not.
I know I’m not the only easy going person there is out there, but staying indoors is no excuse to spend the day in pyjamas with your hair looking like Tarzan’s. If you’re going to have a date, indoors, at home — make an effort to look and smell good.
Of course you wouldn’t need full on make-up and six inch heels but wear a good pair of jeans, a flattering blouse and pretty sandals. Make sure your feet are well pedicured.
There’s nothing more stressful like worrying about what the next person thinks about your feet.
Apparently, you can tell a lot about a woman’s character from her feet.
Gentlemen, wear a decent pair of shorts or pants, a good T-shirt and comfortable boat shoes or loafers.
I almost certainly know your toe nails are unkempt so don’t even think about those sandals!
If you’re more outgoing and will take up an offer for dinner, a braai in the middle of nowhere or a night out at the club — you’re going to have to give a little more thought to your outfit for the day.
For dinner somewhere sophisticated, don’t dress to kill, dress to impress.
Because you’re going to be sitting most of the time and staring into each other’s eyes exchanging sweet nothings, you want to wear something sexy but comfortable so that you’re not distracted all night.
Don’t wear too short a dress. Besides having to pull it down all night, your thighs will make an awful amount of noise as they peel off the chair when you get up. Gents; don’t outshine your woman by wearing too much.
Wear a simple jacket over a slim fit shirt, a good pair of pants and those special shoes you never wear to work. The fragrance you wear will speak volumes for you — you can never leave the house without a few squirts.
If you’re going to be outdoors — before you even think about what you’re wearing, make sure you smell good. It’s really hot these days and nothing smells worse than body odour. You’ll keep wondering why your partner doesn’t want to get in for a hug — it’s because you stink and they can’t bring themselves to telling you!
A cotton T-shirt will be a good option because cotton is absorbent. Your deodorant will last all afternoon under cotton. Wear a pair of shoes with good grip, perhaps a Converse All Star or Nike Waffle.
You don’t want to slip and fall as you take that romantic walk up the mountain or worry about insects and grass all over your feet. A pair of destroyed denims or shorts would be appropriate — anything that will enable you to enjoy the outdoors with no restrictions.
You surely can’t be worrying about tearing your precious silk blouse or staining your white chiffon top!
For all my party people, that short dress you didn’t wear to dinner, wear it to the club and turn up.
Alternatively, pair destroyed skinny jeans with vibrant killer heels and a blouse or blazer. Don’t forget to go all out with the make-up — assuming your hair is always on point.
But if you’re going out dancing in an open air space — lose the heels, we wouldn’t want you whining about painful feet all night. What you decide to wear shouldn’t be a distraction to what the day should be about — love. Put the ambiance of the day first.
Have a fantastic Valentine’s Day and remember to keep your style on fleek — don’t stop slaying!

Wow, you did it again! I was reading your article and felt like you were talking to me. Just the other day, my sister was complaining about my stripped blue shirt that she claims I abuse — I realise now that bringing in variety helps a lot. Keep up the good work my sister. — 0782 414***
