A 57-YEAR-OLD Rvendor, Locadia Makoni, has lost over US$9 000 and ZiG3 000 in a brazen burglary at her Mabvazuva suburb home in Rusape while she was away attending a funeral.
The incident, which occurred on March 22, has left Makoni and her family devastated, with the stolen cash including US$5 000 sent by her daughter from the USA for a vehicle purchase, US$3 800 given by another daughter for safekeeping, and US$682 in church funds.
Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said the unknown suspects broke into Makoni’s home by smashing a bedroom window and forcing open the burglar bars.
“The suspect proceeded to ransack the entire house, stealing cash kept in different places,” Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said, adding that the total value stolen amounts to US$9 482 and ZiG3 000, with nothing recovered so far.
Police are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects and are urging residents to exercise caution and improve security at their homes, particularly when leaving for extended periods.
“We continue to urge members of the public to avoid keeping large sums of money at home and to ensure that their properties are adequately secured at all times,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
