Legendary musician Busi Ncube and veteran broadcaster Nonceba Mnkandla were among the luminaries recognised at the Bulawayo Women Investment Conference, held at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre on Wednesday.

Presenting the special awards, City of Bulawayo corporate communications manager Nesisa Mpofu said the accolades were aimed at pioneers and innovators who have made significant contributions to the province and nation.
“The Bulawayo Women Investment Conference presents this special award to Busi Ncube for her outstanding contribution to the music industry,” Mpofu said, inviting Ncube to the stage to receive her honour.
In accepting her award, Ncube, a beloved icon from the 1980s known for her hit song True Love, serenaded the audience briefly before expressing gratitude for the city’s support.
Veteran broadcaster Nonceba Mnkandla was also recognised for her influential role in the broadcasting sector. As a seasoned radio presenter, Mnkandla has served in multiple capacities at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), including presenter and head of Montrose Studios, shaping public discourse and keeping communities informed.
The three-day conference, hosted by the Office of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, in partnership with Bulawayo City Council, runs from September 3 to 5 at the exhibition centre.
Designed to promote economic independence and leadership among women, the event is being headlined by First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa as Guest of Honour. This year’s theme, “She Leads, Zimbabwe Grows: The Future is Female,” highlights women shaping industries, policy, and investment across the country.
