VEZA: The Unfolding lead actor Calvin Madula was awarded the best actor at the Zambian Sotambe International Film Festival Awards. Rodney Mabaleka from the same film was awarded Best choreography.
Veza had four nominations in the regional awards – Best Southern African Film with director Manyathela nominated in the Best Director’s category, lead actor Calvin Madula nominated in the Best Actor category, and cinematographer Rodney Mabaleka nominated for Best Cinematography.
The awards ceremony took place on Saturday in Zambia.
Representing the crew in Zambia, Madula said he was excited beyond measure.
“Out of four nominations, I’m excited that we managed to take at least two. This is a huge success for me and the team. It’s such an uplifting moment, I’m humbled and delighted!
“Veza was a wake-up call, a lot happened to bring the production to life. The fight choreography and the risk we took through those fighting scenes knowing we were operating on a zero-budget basis all paid off.
“The teamwork we all had in believing in the vision kept us going and now, we’re being recognised regionally. It’s a very big deal for me,” Madula said.
In March this year, the film was nominated for Best Movie in Southern Africa at the African Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA). – @SeehYvonne
