TWO brothers from Master Cecil Mine in Matabeleland North province escaped jail by a whisker after a man they hit with an unknown object on the head withdrew charges before plea.

Malvin Ncube and Lucky Ncube appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Collet Ncube facing a charge of attempted murder.

They, however, heaved a sigh of relief when the victim withdrew the charge before plea.

The magistrate said although the charges were dropped, the initial aim was to monitor the two over the coming years.

“This case is above your heads to shepherd you for the coming years,” charged the magistrate.

The court heard that on 2 January while at Wabayi Bar at Master Cecil Mine, the duo had a misunderstanding with Donald Ndlovu.

It is reported that at the height of the misunderstanding, Lucky went on to slap Ndlovu on the face once before his brother, Malvin, who was carrying an unknown object went on to strike him on the forehead and on the back of the head.

After the attack they reportedly fled from the scene.

The matter was reported to the police and investigations were carried out leading to the arrest of the duo.

Ndlovu was referred to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment and a medical report was produced in court as evidence.
