THE VICTORIA Falls Boxing Academy director and coach Tobias Mupfuti has said they want to
partner their counterparts in Livingstone, Zambia.

Touted as one of the country’s rising boxing houses, the academy’s expansion to Zambia is seen as an avenue to expose boxers to new environments and also cement the already existing ties in sport and culture between the two countries.

The academy has 35 boxers and once the Zambian branch is opened, there will be more bouts to be organised.

Mupfuti on Monday told Zimpapers Sports Hub that the intended opening of a branch in Zambia was strategic in that their academy has long created relations with other boxers in that country.

“This year, we are set to embark on an exciting new venture, expanding our reach to Zambia. The Victoria Falls Boxing Academy is well known for its exceptional training programmes and dedication to developing young boxing talents,” he said.

Mupfuti said the expansion into Zambia will be a significant milestone in the academy’s mission to promote the sport and discover future champions.

“This venture promises to provide aspiring boxers in Zimbabwe and Zambia unparalleled opportunities for growth and recognition on a global scale.

“As the academy branches into Zambia, the country can look forward to witnessing the   rise of a new generation of talented boxers,” he said.

Mupfuti said since their launch in 2013, the sport of boxing had changed for the better in Victoria Falls.

“Boxing has been embraced as a means of entertainment and empowerment in Victoria Falls. Local boxing clubs have sprouted, attracting young men and women who are passionate about the sport,” he said.

Mupfuti said the sport has provided an avenue for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds to rise above their circumstances and achieve recognition.

The budding boxers from the academy that have done well include Lennox “The Hurricane” Chigango who is in the featherweight division, Crein

“The Beast” Moyo (light flyweight|), Sean Pambeni (bantamweight) and Bright Moyo (welterweight).

These boxers have had some ring time in national competitions and according to Mupfuti, they have the potential to scale greater heights internationally.
