VILLAGERS in Chief Shana’s area in the outskirts of Victoria Falls have been left in shock after a seven-year-old boy, Elroy Farai Sigauke, was found dead under harrowing circumstances.

The juvenile is suspected to have taken his own life by hanging before another child, also aged seven, cut him down and laid his body on the veranda of their homestead.

According to an internal police memo obtained by Zimpapers, the incident unfolded on 27 July at Makololo Village 4.
“On 27 July 2025, at around 4pm, ZRP Jambezi received a case of Sudden Death, in which the deceased, Elroy Farai Sigauke, male juvenile aged 7 years residing at Austin Sigauke’ s homestead Makololo village, Chief Shana, Jambezi was found lying on the veranda lifeless,” reads the memo.

According to the memo, the deceased’s mother, Ms Pamela Siyameja (29) years and her husband, Mr Austin Sigauke (50) left home to attend the burial of liberation war hero (name withheld) leaving the now deceased and two other children Tatenda Wedy (7) and Olinda Sigauke aged 1year 9months alone at home.
“The informant (Ms Siyameja) returned at around 4pm and found the now deceased lying at the veranda lifeless.

She made a report at ZRP Jambezi, who attended the scene and observed a fresh scar on the back of the head.
‘Police interviewed Tatenda Wendy on what had transpired during their parent’s absence and he stated that the now deceased hanged himself with a cloth belt on the screen door of the tuckshop, some few metres from where the now deceased was lying. He also stated that, he was the one who cut off the cloth belt with a knife and took him to the veranda,” reads the memo.

The memo says a blue cloth belt was seen on the screen door, in two pieces.

The tragedy has left villagers in shock with local Whatsapp groups circulating audio messages of some villagers suspecting foul play.
