“Working hand in hand with ZTA, we have partnered Vic Falls Carnival, as their green partner in the hope of creating an environmental awareness to tourists coming in for the carnival. We want them to know that this is a green destination and healthy trees and vegetation are symbols of a green destination,” said Mr Chuma.
“The tree planting ceremony is a culmination of the tree planting exercise that started on 1 December at the Victoria Falls Dumpsite where 700 trees were planted. Three hundred and forty two residents of Victoria Falls from all walks of life participated in the noble event. More trees were also planted at Mosi Secondary School and Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School.
We are therefore inviting companies and residents of Victoria Falls to join tourists and participants of the Vic Falls Carnival in planting more trees at the Victoria Falls Hospital, Chamabondo Primary School and CHOGM Park. People should come in numbers and join Tuku and Zahara in planting trees during the Victoria Falls Carnival.”
Mr Chuma said his organisation would also be involved in various environmental and recycling activities during the festival.
“Trees can be sponsored before and during the festival at $10 a tree. The funds raised will be used for purchasing, caring and maintaining tree seedlings during their critical first two years to ensure their long term survival. Caring for the seedlings in their early stage is very important since some trees planted during public relations campaigns by some companies had died soon after being planted because companies lacked continuity strategies,” he said.
Mr Chuma said going green, was the only way to keep Victoria Falls, as a World Heritage site.
“We are strengthening our effort in making Victoria Falls known as Africa’s green destination,” he said.
