The Herald managing editor Victoria Ruzvidzo, last Friday came out third after being voted second runner-up in the Outstanding Woman in Media category during the Megafest Business Awards. Formerly The Herald Business editor, Ruzvidzo was pronounced the second runner-up at a ceremony that was held at a hotel in Harare on Friday.
In an interview yesterday, Ruzvidzo expressed gratitude to the media group’s senior executives for creating a conducive environment allowing women to thrive in the newsroom.
“I am excited to have won this award. It is indeed quite humbling to receive this kind of recognition. I give all the glory and honour to God. He has been very faithful and kind to me.
“I also thank my Editor Caesar Zvayi and all senior executives for creating the environment for women to not only thrive, but excel in the newsroom, a feat that is not an easy one,” she said.
Other women who won top awards include Zimbabwe Independent’s Faith Zaba and The Daily News’ Helen Kadirire.
ZiFM chief executive Susan Makore won the first prize.
Ruzvidzo has previously won several top awards including the 2012’s Megafest Top 10 Women in Business award for media excellence where she competed with seasoned industrialists across all sectors of the economy in a career that spans over 23 years.
According to the organisers, the awards recognise women who have made significant strides in projecting a positive image and who tell the true story of Zimbabwe’s professional women.
Megafest said women such as Ruzvidzo played a vital role in the development of Zimbabwe and through their entrepreneurial skills, professionalism and competences, they contributed to the economic development of this country.
