Police have launched a manhunt for five men who are appearing on a video on social media assaulting and harassing a naked couple they found in a bushy area.
The couple believed to have been intimate was found by the men in a bushy area yet to be identified.
Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba yesterday said police were appealing for information which may lead to the identification of the suspects and complainants appearing in a WhatsApp video which has gone viral.
“A group of five men is seen assaulting and harassing a naked couple with the background of gumtrees and banana trees. Victims are whipped while being forced to engage in sexual activity.
“The two victims in this horrendous video are urged to come forward and report,” she said.
Snr Asst Comm Charamba said the police would ensure that the law takes its course on these unruly elements in society.
“Anyone with information may contact any nearest Police Station or National Complaints Desk on telephone number (04) 703631,” she said.
The two-minute 45 seconds video is in Shona and the men are seen beating the couple with sticks, forcing them to be intimate.
In March, police were investigating a case in which a group of women harassed and assaulted an alleged prostitute in a video that went viral on social media.
The women featured in the video where an alleged prostitute was stripped naked and asked to dance before the women and other observers, beat her privates with a stick before pouring salt inside.
During the same month, two touts were sentenced to an effective eight months in jail following the release of a similar video where a woman was stripped at a bus rank in Harare for allegedly wearing a mini-skirt.
