Village Command Agric II comes to Chivi

CHIVI Rural District Council chair Dr Killer Zivhu (pictured right) yesterday launched the second phase of Village Command Agriculture with a rallying call to boost maize production.

Addressing farmers at Banga Irrigation Scheme, Dr Zivhu – who is the Zimbabwe Local Government Association president – said Command Agriculture programme would ensure food security. He also handed over 6 000 bags of cement for construction of schools as well as water weirs under Command Water Harvesting.

“We are launching the second phase of Village Command Agriculture so that villagers can be able to produce enough to ensure food security. The good crop in Banga Irrigation Scheme shows that things can be done. I know we are talking food here but let me also urge you to register in the on-going biometric voter registration exercise. This will enable all of us to vote for our party – Zanu-PF,” said Dr Zivhu.

He warned councillors and village heads against diverting what they got under the Presidential Inputs Support Scheme.

“Free inputs under the Presidential Inputs Support Scheme are coming and let’s use these productively. Each household should be able to produce more than 10 bags per season,” said Dr Zivhu.

“I want to warn community leaders not to lure your girlfriends using Government-sourced farming inputs. You must give deserving beneficiaries and not your relatives or friends.”

Dr Zivhu also said the second phase of Zim-Asset would see construction of schools, rehabilitation of roads, and implementation of water harvesting projects.

“Under Zim-Asset Phase Two, we will rehabilitate our road network and build schools. With that in mind, I am donating 6 000 bags of cement towards construction of water weirs under Command Water Harvesting.

“I urge other people from Chivi to contribute towards construction of bridges and schools in the district.”

Turning to politics, he said: “I urge this constituency and Masvingo people to respect their leadership. Let’s not sabotage sitting MPs such as Cde Maphios Utete and other councillors. If you want to campaign, your time will come.”
