ITaS my house!
A Shurugwi chief with Big Brother tendencies a?evicteda? a villager whose crime was failure to greet the local leadership.
Janiston Chihlangu received his four months eviction notice last year in October to vacate Mashingaidze village by Chief Banga.
The Chief, whose birth name is Lameck Toindepi told B-Metro that he had the power to banish subjects that didnat toe the line.
a?I am the chief of this area and as such I have the right to chase away any villager who does not show respect to me,a? he said.
The chief said Chihlangu should go and stay with a chief that he respected.
a?If a child does not respect his father, the father has the right to chase him away from home. Thatas what I did. He can go wherever he wants and be with the chief that he will respect,a? said Chief Banga.
The chief said the a?rudea? behaviour dates as far back as 2009 when he issued the first warning.
a?In 2009 I summoned him to my traditional court for not greeting me and he promised to change. I told him to respect me or else I will ask him to vacate the village,a? added Chief Banga.
However, Chihlangu refuses to be governed in such a manner.
a?Chief Banga is just abusing his power. How can he evict me from the village for not greeting him? I only greet him if I want to but I am not obliged to do so because he is not God. He canat force people to greet him. Whatas there to gain from greeting him anyway?a? said Chihlangu.
