Villagers from Hwange have turned to the media to voice their concerns regarding the conduct of their local chief, Chief Nekatambe, who is also known to be a traditional healer.
Community members allege a range of serious misconduct, including allegations of rape, corruption with law enforcement and the courts, and taking advantage of minors.
One villager expressed their fear of speaking out, stating, “We are now afraid to raise our issues against Chief Nekatambe. No one seems to act on our complaints, and when we do speak up, we face victimization.”
The fear of repercussions has silenced many, leaving them feeling vulnerable and helpless.
Another villager echoed these sentiments, noting, “No matter how many times we report the chief’s actions, no action is taken against him because of his connections with the police. It feels like we are trapped.”
The villagers’ frustration is palpable, as they seek justice but feel that their voices are being ignored.
A third villager added, “We expect the chief to safeguard our community, but he is doing the opposite. Instead of protecting us, he is causing fear and pain among us.” The villagers’ frustration is palpable, as they seek justice but feel that their voices are being ignored.
Efforts to reach Chief Nekatambe for comment were unsuccessful, as his mobile phone went unanswered, leaving the community without a response to their pressing concerns.
As the villagers continue to seek support, they hope their plight will be heard, and that accountability will be sought for the alleged abuses within their community.
