Vincent brothers jet in for FBC Zim Open

TWO of the country’s top golfers Scott and Kieran Vincent arrived in the country ahead of the FBC Zimbabwe Open yesterday.

The duo, who will be part of the four-day tournament set for Royal Harare Golf Club from Thursday to Sunday, touched down at the Robert Mugabe International Airport at lunch hour.

Speaking soon after his arrival, Scott said he is happy to be back home after a year in the international circuit.
“It is good to be back home after over a year and it will be great to play in front of my family and countrymen. The game is going to be tough but I am looking forward to the tournament.

“I am ready as I was working very hard ahead of the tournament. It is good to be playing back at home where I know the course well.

“It has been a roller-coaster year for me and my brother as we are coming from Hong Kong, which gives us motivation. I am looking forward to the week and I am happy that the weather is favourable back home,’ said Scott.

Kieran said he is ready for the challenge and is looking forward to the week ahead.
“Zimbabwe Open has good memories for me and it is something we always look forward to. The game is going to be a tough one and we will try our best and go all the way.

“I am happy to be back to my country and we will try our best,’ added Kieran.

The Vincent brothers are currently playing in the lucrative LIV Golf league where they have been doing well.
The 12th edition of the remodelled Zim Open, has FBC Holdings as the title sponsors for the third year running and has attracted 144 players.

The FBC Zimbabwe Open will see a field of 144 golfers vying for top honours in the country’s annual premier golf tournament.

Tournament director, Michael Mahachi during a press briefing had revealed that the Vincent brothers had confirmed their participation and everyone was looking forward to their participation.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce that for the first time since we reintroduced the Zim Open in 2010, Zimbabwe is going to be represented at the event by the country’s top five players on the world rankings,” he said.

“I was not sure it was right to announce this but this morning I made sure that I contacted the Vincent brothers’ management team in the US to make this announcement. And they confirmed that Scott Vincent and Kieran Vincent will participate in the Zim Open

“This is the first time that we have a strong contingent of Zimbabwean players at the event. Scott and Kieran will be flying from Sentosa in Singapore on May 5 to be part of the Zim Open.”

Also of interest will be another father and son affair with Darren Fitchard featuring with his son, who got an invite after doing well at the Zimbabwe Junior Golf Championship.

Nyasha and Day Muyambo, Clive Nguru Junior and Senior are some of the players who took to the field as father and son.
