SCOTT Vincent ended in 140th place at the 154th Open Championships after missing the cut at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England, at the weekend.
This year’s Open Championships was overshadowed by the FIFA World Cup.
It was won by Ryan Fox of New Zealand, who finished one stroke better than Cameron Young.
He is the third golfer from New Zealand to take the crown.
Vincent found the going tough in the opening two rounds as he shot an eight-over par 148 after rounds of 75 and 73.
It meant he could not make the cut and found himself watching the weekend action in the company of some heavyweight golfers who also failed to make the cut.
They included Major winners Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose, Jason Day, Henrick Stenson and Darren Clarke.
Rose, the Englishman who won the 2013 US Open and a former world number one, missed the cut after opening his campaign with the same score as Vincent — five-over-par 75.
He then followed it with a two-under-par 68 on Friday but his three-over-par 143 was not enough to keep him in contention during the weekend.
Stenson, the Swede who won the Open Championship in 2016, opened with a two-under-par 68 but a four-over-par 74 on Friday meant he missed the cut.
That was the same fate that befell Northern Irishman Clarke and former world number one and Masters winner Spieth.
Vincent’s total of eight-over-par 148, in his two rounds, meant that he finished in 140th place overall.
Only 16 players, including James Nicholas who withdrew after a first round score of five-over-par 75, finished lower than the Zimbabwean star golfer.
