SCOTT VINCENT once again proved that he is the best around when he won this year’s edition of the Harare Amateur Championships held over three days at Police Golf Club. The golfer, who is home on holiday from his base at Virginia Tech University in the United States, was at his brilliant best as he shot an 22-under-par total after the four rounds. The four-handicap Vincent carded impressive rounds of 64, 68, 65 and 69.
A total of 59 golfers took to the field in the 72-hole tournament, which drew most of the top amateurs.
Vincent won the Chapman Grand Slam in his first major tournament during this year’s vacation.
Pre-tournament favourite and reigning Champion of Champions, Clive Nguru, could only finish as the runner-up this time around now that the dominant bull was back in the kraal.
The Chapman-based-golfer carded 70, 74, 65 and 74 for a gross score of 283.
Victoria Falls-based golfer, Thembelani Vundhla, settled for third place. Vundla was particularly impressive in his second round as he shot a brilliant 69.
Stuart Krog, playing off one-handicap, managed rounds of 77, 75, 69 and 72 for fourth place.
Bradley Hudson, David Amm, Grant Hudson Tonderai Masunga, Pride Sembo and Biggie Chibvuri completed the top ten.
The Zimbabwe Golf Association president, Boniface Chigorimbo, hailed Vincent for his spectacular performance.
“Congratulations Scott, winner at minus 22, great stuff,” said Chigorimbo.
“A possible record win, we will dig for the record.”
