Multi-award-winning muso Mzoe 7 is cloud nine after his song Kungcono featuring comedian Umnikazi Wempuphu and socialite Jayden “Mdluli’ Nyathi was voted on the third position on Khulumani FM’s top 100 end-of-year charts.
On the list, Insimbi ZeZhwane’s GPS took the pole position.
In the process, all the songs that made it to the top three on Khulumani FM, were rewarded with a Gold Disc and cash price, as a way of complimenting the artistes’ hard work.
This also happened to other Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) owned radio stations including National FM, Power FM, Radio Zimbabwe as well as Classic 263.
Mzoe 7 said he is grateful for the honour he received both from the fans who voted and Khulumani FM for the music plaque.
He said the song, which was inspired by Pastor Mordecai Kwenda’s sermon which trended on social media, was recorded in one day and released a week later.
He also revealed that he was amazed by the success of the song which was released three months ago.
“I’m a futuristic person. I also love to celebrate trends and when I thought of what would make people happy, laugh and hopeful at the same time, I penned the song based on Pastor Mordecai Kwenda’s Kungcono sermon.
“I called Umnikazi Wempuphu and Mdluli asking them to be part of the project and they loved the idea. We met and we decided that we would write and record the song at the same time. Yedwa captured the vocals, we helped each other with lyrics and we had a masterpiece.
“The song was honoured by Khulumani as it was number three on the top 100. This shows how much of an impact the song has on our people and we thank them for voting for us. The success of the song is owed to the power of collaboration and complimenting each other’s talents,” said Mzoe 7.
He said he cherished every moment of working on the song as: “Mdluli and Umnikazi Wempuphu are two dedicated people and we worked on this project together because of their energies and vision. They are visionaries who believe in teamwork and are very talented, they are open minded souls.”
