“Women have a huge potential of making a difference in communities they live, and they should be educated for this potential to be realised,” Prof Nikooravin said in an interview.
She said about 67 percent of women in Iran were enrolled in universities.
Prof Nikooravin said education should not prevent women from motherhood responsibilities. She said according to Moslem tradition, a working woman was not obliged to provide for the family although it is acceptable if she wishes to assist her husband.
“If she gets employed, the money is all for herself although if she wants she can choose to assist her husband,” said Prof Nikooravin.
She said the threat posed by Western culture on women includes their abuse as they are viewed and used as sex objects. Prof Nikooravin said this resulted in unwanted pregnancies and sometimes abuse of children born out of wedlock.
“Because of high taxes in Western worlds, women are forced to work just like men for them to survive,” she said.
“This has impacted negatively on bachelors who shun marriage to avoid expenses.”
The Women’s Day in Iran is celebrated on the day on which the daughter of Prophet Muhammad Mustafa, Fatima Zahra, was born.
Prof Nikooravin arrived in Zimbabwe on Friday last week and was scheduled to leave yesterday.
The purpose of her visit was to share and exchange ideas with Zimbabwean women on their role in community development.
