Vitori on right track

Senior Sports Reporter
BANNED from bowling in international cricket Zimbabwean fast bowler Brian Vitori is hard at work trying to correct his action. Vitori was sent to South Africa by Zimbabwe Cricket in March where he spent a month working with bowling specialist Justin Sammons in Johannesburg trying to rectify his action. During the stay in South Africa, Vitori went for independent assessments at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria. He described it as a rigorous exercise trying to get rid of the old action and adopting a new one.

Since his return from South Africa, Vitori has been working with Tuskers coach Wayne James at Queens Sports Club. Once he feels that he is ready for a retest, he will return to Sammons for final work on his new action. According to Vitori, Sammons gave his report where the specialist strongly recommended that the left arm seamer gets used to the new action because bowling in international cricket with the high intensity, he might be forced to return to his illegal action.

Vitori disclosed that he is positive that he will pass the retest but the most important thing is for his body to be able to maintain the new bowling action.

The 26-year-old Zimbabwean bowler was in February this year prohibited from bowling in international cricket after tests conducted in India revealed that his action was illegal. He had been reported for a suspect bowling action during the third Twenty20 International between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in January.
