Vocal-Ex savours Star FM debut

BULAWAYO based inter-denominational gospel music outfit Vocal Extra-Ordinaire, better known as Vocal-Ex, made their debut on Star FM “Gospel Greats” recently with the song “Akhona Amandla”.

This is despite the fact that the 24-member group was formed in 2013.

Group spokesperson Blessing Sitotombe said they had never recorded and had since formation concentrated on performing in churches and at corporate events.

“We have been motivated to go into the studio and record this song by our mandate, which is to carry the message of unity, hope, peace and the love of God to every corner of the world,” said Sitotombe. “Now that we are doing that which can put us on a global platform we will be ministering the word of God through song across nations.”

Sitotombe said “Akhona Amandla” was written by group member Nompumelelo Bhe and Thembelani Theodore Mdlaziba, the Vocal-Ex founder.

“The inspiration of the song is from the revelation of the power of the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed for the atonement of our sins as the human kind.

“The Bible says in John 3:16, ‘For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life,’” he said.

He added that “Akhona Amandla” was arranged with a medley from the hymn “Bus’owakho Umsebenzi”, which is a declaration and a prayer that God’s will be done. Vocal-Ex is co-directed by Mr Eric Moyo who is also a member of renowned South African gospel music group, Joyous Celebration.

Last year, Vocal-Ex performed in Botswana and locally they have shared the stage with Takesure Zamar-Ncube, Mkululi Bhebhe, Zimpraise, Baba Mechanic Manyeruke, Pastor G among many others.
