THE country’s senior volleyball men’s side, the Eagles, have gone in camp preparing for the upcoming All-Africa Games set for Accra, Ghana, from March 8 – 23.
Already, two foreign based players have accepted the call for national duty.
Malawi based Kudakwashe “Voltron” Kandanda arrived in the country last week, signalling how committed the Zimbabwe Volleyball Associations (ZVA) is in making sure the team has adequate training ahead of the continental showcase.
Cyprus-based Douglas Choto will join the team in Ghana in the coming weeks.
Choto is the national team captain.
Banking on a huge pool of talented players, the Itsanang Abu-Basuthu coached national team will also seek to rely on the services of local based players who set their first camp in Harare last Saturday.
Among players that the country will be counting on are Mefferey Chindumbo of Highlanders. Chindumbo is a trusted libero in the game, with 15 national team caps. There is also Matthew Msamanyada of Highlanders, Charles Nyamasve (NABA), Panashe Sangonya (Vakiliar Sport), Ronald Makombe and Keith Machakare.
Tanaka Hwara of University of Zimbabwe Wolves is another hopeful.
Support Unit’s Trymore Nyakwangwa and Takudzwa Mashaka are some of the players to look forward to.
Nigel Kadumba, Ronald Makombe, Takudzwa Mashaka, Isaac Chokera, and Brian Muchera from Bulawayo based Highlanders Volleyball Club are hopefuls as well.
