an accident.
The members were on their way to Bulawayo for a Zimbabwe Volleyball Association National League games when the car burst a tyre, some 20km before Gweru.
ZVA secretary Ringisayi Mapondera said they were yet to gather more details on what really happened but he was happy that no one was seriously injured.
“What we got to know is that some members of the team were on their way to Bulawayo when a car encroached into their lane. It was some 20km before Gweru but we understand that in an effort to avoid a collision the driver moved out of the road.
“Unfortunately there is this trenching that has been going on along the major roads and the car went over the heaps of earth and burst a tyre.
“We understand that there were five occupants in the Subaru that rolled over and became a write-off,” said Mapondera.
Mapondera said after being informed of the accident, the ZVA has to cancel all matches involving NABA.
“After were received news of the misfortune, we had to cancel all matches involving NABA. “I also understand that the five people who were in the car have since been discharged from Gweru hospital,” said Mapondera. Mapondera said they were still making further investigations into the mishap.
“The guys could be okay but the car was a write-off,” he said.
But in the national league games that were played, Railstars beat Hawks 3-0 while Thunder overcame the loss of two sets to beat KOBA 3-2. The five-set match lasted more than three hours.
